Are you looking to get that blue checkmark next to your Instagram username?<\/p>

Today, I\u2019ll show you how to make it happen (for free!).<\/p>

2022 update: Now anyone can request an official verification badge directly through Instagram. Don\u2019t believe anyone selling you verification. I don\u2019t and I never did. I also don\u2019t work at\/for Instagram, so won\u2019t be able to help you troubleshoot any of your problems. You can contact Instagram support following this guide. Before we dive into how to get verified, it\u2019s important that you know who can get verified.<\/p>

What are the requirements to get verified on Instagram?<\/strong><\/p>

Instagram looks at 4 factors to determine whether your account is worthy of the blue badge. These are:<\/p>

Authenticity:<\/strong> Your account must represent a real person, registered business or entity.<\/p>

Uniqueness:<\/strong> Your account must be the unique presence of the person or business it represents. Only one account per person or business may be verified, with exceptions for language-specific accounts. Compilation accounts or accounts that don\u2019t post original content won\u2019t be verified (e.g. rap videos, funny memes, fan pages, etc).<\/p>

Completeness:<\/strong> Your account privacy must be set to public. It should also have a bio, profile photo and at least one post (more posts is better). Your profile can\u2019t contain \u201cadd me\u201d links to other social media services.<\/p>

Noteworthiness:<\/strong> Your account must represent a well-known, highly searched for person, brand or entity. They want accounts that are featured in multiple news sources, and don\u2019t consider paid or promotional content as sources for review. (see step #1 below)<\/p>

Also, needless to say, your account also needs to follow Instagram\u2019s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.<\/p>

Now let\u2019s get to the fun part\u2026<\/p>

1. Get press written about you<\/strong><\/p>

Only select people on Instagram are handed a verification badge as I explained above. Those include celebrities, musicians, actors, and people with large followings and press in real life.<\/p>

Instagram will attempt to verify your noteworthiness to see if you are qualified for a blue checkmark.<\/p>

While their exact efforts are not divulged, it\u2019s likely that Instagram will search your name\/username on Google and try to see if you have been covered in many publications.<\/p>

2. Get verified on Google with knowledge panel<\/strong><\/p>

Knowledge panels are information boxes that appear on Google when you search for entities (people, places, organizations, things) that are in the Knowledge Graph. They are meant to help you get a quick snapshot of information on a topic based on Google\u2019s understanding of available content on the web.<\/p>
